Methodology
Every number on this site is calculated the same way, every time — here’s exactly how.
Rebasing to 100
Each fund’s and benchmark’s first NAV in the selected period is set to 100, with all subsequent values scaled proportionally. This makes funds with very different NAV levels — a ₹50 fund and a ₹500 index — directly comparable on the same chart.
Availability
A fund only appears for a given period if it has a valid NAV on every trading day within that period — i.e. it was already live for the full window. Funds without complete data for the selected range are excluded and listed separately, rather than silently plotted with gaps.
Trailing returns
Computed on each fund’s or benchmark’s full available history, as of the selected end date. Periods of one year or more are annualized (CAGR); shorter periods are shown as absolute returns.
Standard deviation
The annualized volatility of daily returns over the selected period — daily return standard deviation, scaled by the square root of 252 (trading days per year).
Up / down capture
The proportion of the benchmark’s compounded gain (or loss) that a fund captured on days the benchmark was positive (or negative) over the selected period. Formally: compound the fund’s returns on the benchmark’s up-days, divide by the benchmark’s own compounded return over those same days, ×100 (and the same for down-days).
A negative Down Capture means the fund posted a positive return on days the benchmark fell — i.e. it moved in the opposite direction to the market on those days. This is a genuinely defensive characteristic and is treated as favourable (shown in green) on this site, even though the figure itself is negative.
Capture ratio
Up Capture divided by Down Capture. A ratio above 1.0 indicates the fund has, over this period, captured more upside than downside relative to the benchmark.
Maximum drawdown
The largest peak-to-trough decline in NAV within the selected period — the biggest loss an investor would have experienced buying at the worst possible point and selling at the subsequent low.
Monthly returns heatmap
Each month’s return is NAV at that month’s last trading day versus NAV at the prior month’s last trading day. This uses the fund’s or benchmark’s full available history (not the date range selected on the Compare page), since a multi-year view is the point of this table. The Annual column compounds that year’s monthly returns. Benchmark heatmaps are trimmed to start from the selected fund’s own inception date, so the two line up year-for-year for direct comparison.
Data sources
Fund NAV data and benchmark index levels are sourced from third-party data providers. While we take reasonable care, we cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of this data. Always verify figures against official scheme documents before making any decision.
